If you live within commuting distance of Newark, Delaware, there are some teacher training opportunities you might want to take advantage of at Tall Oaks Classical School.
Spell to Write and Read is the phonics program used at Tall Oaks. I highly recommend this program. There is a two-day training course that will enable you to teach this curriculum in grades K to 5. Once you buy the materials ($95), you can teach this curriculum each year without further curriculum purchases. The cost of the course is $135. June 19 and 20, 2009. Contact the school for more information.
Do you want to include Latin and Logic in your home school program, but lack a background in these subjects yourself? Tall Oaks is opening its summer enrichment program to adults this year, so you can take a four-week crash course in Latin and/or Logic and gain the confidence you need to teach them to your kids. The courses are taught during the month of July. For more information, download this brochure. Download Summer Brochure 2009
Tall Oaks' continuing education program for its teachers will feature Christine Perrin, poet, college professor and author of The Art of Poetry, Jim Selby, the author of Classical Curriculum, a program for composition and rhetoric based on the ancient Progymnasmata, Tall Oaks teacher Steve Turley on Christian Aesthetics, as well as a number of practical teaching workshops on topics such as long-range and lesson planning, assessments and grading across the curriculum and The Seven Laws of Teaching taught by yours truly and Tall Oaks headmaster Don Post. This training conference is held the week of August 10, 2009. For more information, download this brochure. Download Brochure Summer Teacher 2009
